Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is an Island Art Party class like?
You know when you go to a museum, and it’s really quiet and stuffy and everyone whispers??? Not like that. We designed our studio to be a bright and relaxed space that inspires creative and social energy. Everyone paints together, but we encourage you to add your personal style. A break or two during the session allows the paint to dry and a chance for you to stretch your legs and check out the other masterpieces-in-progress. If you feel the urge to sing or dance to the tunes that we play while you paint – go for it. Any creativity is welcome here!
2. I can only draw stick figures and I haven’t painted since I was in grade school… Can I do this?
Absolutely, YES! Our Partista’s step-by-step instructions ensure that anyone – regardless of experience or talent – will not only finish their masterpiece, but will go home with a painting that, at the very least, resembles the featured example. Most likely, though, you will be surprised at how good you really are! We can’t promise that you’ll create fine art, but we’re certain you’ll create FUN art.
3. How long does it take?
Each session is approximately 2 to 3 hours (including breaks), depending on the complexity of the painting and the flow of the class.
4. Do I need to make a reservation?
Because we have limited seating, we encourage you to make an advance reservation. We will always attempt to have a class if reservations are made, but we reserve the right to cancel a class if we see that a minimum of 6 people have not signed up prior to class. Walk-in painters are always welcome as long as seats are available and the class has not been cancelled.
5. How do I make a reservation?
It’s easy…Simply click on the REGISTER NOW button at the top of this page and follow the prompts. If you prefer, you can also book by phone at 808-419-6020. Either way, your credit card will hold the reservation, but won’t be charged until you check in for the session.
6. How much does it cost?
Prices vary from $39 - $59 per session. Kama'aina rates are available only with a valid Hawaii ID or Military ID. Click on the painting you'd like to do on the calendar and the registration page will appear. The full price will be shown and any discounts will be taken at the studio when payment is made.
7. What is included in the price?
Everything that you need to create the featured painting: a 16”x 20” canvas, easel, acrylic paints, brushes and aprons. Your station will already be set up when you arrive, and we take care of cleaning up when class is finished. Fresh, self-serve popcorn is available for your munching pleasure throughout the class, free of charge. Beverages are available for purchase at the bar.
8. When should I arrive for class?
To ensure that the session starts on time, we recommend that you check-in at least 15 minutes before the scheduled class time to allow you to get settled in at your station and grab a drink. Our doors open 30 minutes before class, though, if you’d like a bit more time to explore the studio and shop a little in our boutique. If you do not show up by the start time of the class, Island Art Party reserves the right to cancel your reservation and sell the seat to another customer. Please call if you are running a few minutes late. :-)
9. What is the cancellation/refund policy?
If you are holding a reservation that you need to cancel or reschedule, we ask that you do so at least 24 hours in advance of your reserved class, either by phone (808-419-6020) or by email (firstname.lastname@example.org). Please let us know as early as possible as this will allow another painter to fill your spot. The full fee for the class will be charged for reservations not cancelled or rescheduled with 24 hours’ notice.
10. What do I bring?
Your fun-loving self…a friend, maybe 2, maybe 20. That’s all you need. We provide all the materials, instruction, set-up and clean-up. You will also need a valid ID for proof of age.
11. What do I wear?
Something comfortable and paint-friendly. Aprons are provided, but we can’t guarantee that you or your belongings will stay paint-free.
12. Do you serve alcohol?
Yes, as soon as we have our liquor license, we will serve alcohol at all of our sessions. Until then, we invite you to patronize our neighbors. When we do have our liquor license, we will ID everone at check-in and minors under the age of 21 will receive a hand stamp to help our staff identify them and to make sure all liquor laws are folllowed. Any minor in attendance at any session must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or person authorized by their parent or guardian. We offer a selection of wine, beer and soda, as well as a complement of other “adult” and non-alcoholic “creative juices”. We ID everyone, no matter how old you think you may look, so please be prepared to show us your ID.
13. Can I bring in my own food and drink (BYOB)?
Sorry, bringing in your own alcoholic beverages is not allowed at Island Art Party. Food may be brought in with prior approval from Island Art Party if you have reserved the entire studio for your private party. If you need assistance with finding a caterer, please give us a call.
14. Can I come in just to drink at the bar and not paint?
Sorry, but the bar in our studio is solely for the enjoyment of our painters.
15. Can my kids come, too?
Yes, kids 8 and up are welcome at our Family Classes, which are held at select 2PM sessions. Please see our schedule online to see which sessions are available for younger painters. At our evening sessions, attendees must be 16 or up. Any minor in attendance at any session must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or person authorized by their parent or guardian.
16. Can I book a private party at the Island Art Party studio?
Absolutely! We offer several private party and team building options. Please call the studio at 808-419-6020 or email us at email@example.com and we will get in touch with you to discuss your event.
